Supporting communities nearby and far away

Story by Jonna Palmu

Just before covid times, we got the opportunity to support a cause we see as important and truly care about. As a company and individuals, we pursue to incorporate sustainability into our everyday operations and establish purposeful initiatives accordingly. This time, through one of our longtime construction workers coming from Sri Lanka, we found a meaningful way for us and our clients to contribute to the society.

Proposed by this freelance contractor, we finally delivered two 12 meters’ freight containers of goods from Switzerland to Sri Lanka to help the locals and homeless people there. The shipment constituted of items from the past exhibition and event sites, including construction materials, furniture, windowpanes, lamps, lights, etc. Particularly, most leftovers of the AEK stand at HESO special exhibition which was held in Solothurn, Switzerland, was sent to support the local Sri Lankan people.

The intension was to offer materials and equipment to re-build and improve the conditions of the shelters made for homeless elderly and orphan children. The second goal of the local philanthropy organization we cooperated with was to sell some of the items to provide meals to the homeless old people.

We wish to continue working with associations at Sri Lanka and join forces with initiatives that align with our values and in which we can be of help. In fact, we already have new freight containers waiting to be delivered when only possible.

Times of seeing events and exhibitions as disposals is gone. Giving back to the society like this is a small act but at least one way to support the ones in need. Love, empathy and humanity.
